President's Challenge
by Linda Burdick, Executive Director, Friends of Rodeo Organization

The challenge is on! Are you up to it?

What "challenge" am I referring to? Well, it's what we're calling the "President's Challenge" and its motive is to increase Friends of Rodeo's membership numbers — to double them in fact, in just one month.

President Earl Hall has issued this challenge and it can be achieved in a most innovative way — one that is quite basic and very simple to do. It only involves ONE thing that each of you have to do, ONE effort you have to make, and just that ONE goal to reach — and that is the magic word, ONE.

If each and every member currently in Friends of Rodeo were to accept this challenge and go out and sign-up just ONE new member this month our numbers would double. And after you sign that new member up, challenge them to get ONE new member in the next month — can you see where this is going? Can you envision what this would do to Friends of Rodeo's membership in just 3 months, 6 months, or one year?

As I've explained in the past, it's a "numbers game" to protect the sport of rodeo. "Numbers" are the clout to help pass or kill possible bills and ordinances that could affect rodeo and its events. The "numbers" I refer to are "members" and we need the members to keep up our effectiveness. We need you to do that ONE thing — get ONE new member.

If you're a member you've already done a very important step in giving us those numbers. Now take your support ONE step further — accept the President's Challenge and have your mom, dad, sister, brother, cousin, or friend join Friends of Rodeo. How about your horseshoer, your vet, the owner of the feed store — I bet your roping partner would like to do his part in preserving the sport of rodeo. Have you ever asked him?

There are many of you who have done your part in the past by signing up new members, and we thank you, but there are a far more bunch of you who haven't even given it a thought — and why would you, you were never asked. Well, were asking now — no, we're CHALLENGING you now!

There are several ways you can help a new member join: 1) complete a membership application online at www.FriendsofRodeo.com ; 2) give us a call and join with a credit card; or 3) cut-out a Friends of Rodeo membership application printed on the back cover of our publication or in other fine publications such as the Ropers Sports News, Dally Times, or Buckin' Chute, or from the many rodeo programs that also have our applications printed in them.

See how easy this is? Earl and I think so, and we have all the confidence in the world in all of you.

And we are rising to the Challenge ourselves and making it our goal to each get ONE new member this month — Earl's already started his list of people he's approaching with the invitation to join our group. Actually, we're taking it ONE step further — we're each going to get ONE new member for each year we've been involved with Friends of Rodeo. You don't have to do that, as I said all we want you to do is get ONE — we're just like that and have to take everything that ONE step further. You can if you want though, but all you are challenged to do is get your ONE.

Now, there will be some people out there who I'm sure will ask you what "they get out of it" by joining, how does it "benefit them", or "what's in it for them" — yes, there are some that don't "get it" and will ask you that. And, after you tell them about the President's Challenge they'll probably then ask you, "Well, gee, do I get a prize or something if I do this?" In both instances you can honestly tell them YES, they get something — maybe not a prize or perks at a rodeo, but they will get something. They get the chance to be a part of a group of very special rodeo believers whose only goal is to work collectively at doing whatever it takes to keep rodeo alive.

ONE challenge to do, ONE thing that will get ONE new member to promote and preserve America's number ONE sport — RODEO!

I'm up to it, are you?
